In February 1833 William Robertson 1795-1891 and Marion (McGilchrist) Robertson 1793-1866 of Penicuik, Scotland with their six young children sailed from the Port of Leith, Scotland aboard the SS Thomas of London bound for Sydney in the Colony of New South Wales. The Robertson family however disembarked at Hobart Town Van Diemen's Land (Tas) prior to settling in Victoria in 1837. This is the history of their third child-first son James McGilchrist Robertson 1823-1908.
